Introduction

New models of residential multiple occupation have emerged in recent years including co-living schemes, purpose built student accommodation, property guardians and later living schemes. Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) continue to make a major contribution to housing supply but also continue to present particular challenges for planning authorities.

This virtual classroom session will consider the particular planning issues associated with residential multiple occupation, including classifying residential uses, policy and development management issues and approaches to regulating multiple occupation. Recent guidance provided by the courts will also be considered.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive course will cover practical insights into planning issues for multiple occupation schemes and will cover the following:

  • The different models of residential occupation
  • Policy approaches to regulating multiple occupation
  • The relationship between HMO licencing and planning
  • Development management issues relating to multiple occupation

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
