Multiple Occupation Residential Development - The Planning Issues Explored
Introduction
New models of residential multiple occupation have emerged in recent years including co-living schemes, purpose built student accommodation, property guardians and later living schemes. Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) continue to make a major contribution to housing supply but also continue to present particular challenges for planning authorities.
This virtual classroom session will consider the particular planning issues associated with residential multiple occupation, including classifying residential uses, policy and development management issues and approaches to regulating multiple occupation. Recent guidance provided by the courts will also be considered.
