Natural Capital in the Rural Sector - What Does it Mean in Practice?
Introduction
Natural Capital is no longer a grand academic concept. In recent years, legislation including the Agriculture Act 2020 and the Environment Act 2021 has brought the concept of Natural Capital right into the heart of farming and land development.
There is an array of new, long-term covenants to be navigated on the pathway to Net Zero, often supported by so called ‘green’ finance.
Many estate managers are already taking advantage of these new schemes to assist the profitable running of their farms as well as a smoother transition into diversification. When land comes up for development, these covenants become particularly important.
This virtual classroom seminar is aimed at professional advisers working with rural clients or in the rural environment, including land management consultants, property valuers, solicitors, rural accountants, rural finance and farm business consultants. The focus on the Environment Act 2021 will tend to emphasise practice in England, although the broader principles are relevant throughout the UK.
