Introduction

The global sports market is now worth more than $350 billion and disputes and conflicts arise on a daily basis from grass routes through to the elite level. Often such disputes can be ‘bet the ranch’ type matters with livelihoods and significant money at stake. More and more of these kinds of disputes are being resolved via alternative dispute resolution methods adopted by individuals, governing bodies, and other sporting organisations.

ADR can allow for greater flexibility than court litigation and can also allow for international disputes being resolved through a single, uniform procedure.

The purpose of this webinar is to provide a summary of what ADR is, why it is used in sports and how it is currently being implemented.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • A summary of disputes which can arise within a sporting context
  • The different options available through ADR
  • Consideration of the pros and cons of the different options within ADR
  • Internal disciplinary process and their role within ADR
  • The role and reason for the Court of Arbitration for Sport

This webinar was recorded on 9th August 2022
