Introduction

Whilst oral advocacy is important, more and more often advocates are asked to put submissions and legal arguments into writing to enable courts to have advance notice of points to be raised.

There are some requirements under the criminal procedure rules when drafting, but written arguments are an art, rather than a science. Despite this, there are some rules which you should seek to follow.
