In March 2024, it was reported that offences involving a sharp implement rose by four percent. These types of offences have continued to rise.
There is a significant media, public and political interest involving offences using a sharp implement, hence why it is important that you ensure you are up to date with your knowledge in this area.
Whilst some of the laws relating to possession of knives and blades have been around for some time and with which you may be familiar, the definitions and interpretations of the elements to prove have continued to be the subject of judicial examination.
Furthermore, in reaction to public response, we have seen changes in the legislation relating to possession of knives in private places and increased powers of sentencing.
