Introduction

According to the Office of the Public Guardian most LPAs do not contain any instructions or preferences, even when drafted by professionals.

Inclusion of suitable provision reduces the risk of misuse as the attorney is made aware of how they should make decisions, and third parties are on notice of how they should act, which ensures that the attorney is held to account for poor decision making.

This new virtual classroom seminar is aimed at fee earners who advise and draft lasting powers of attorney.

What You Will Learn

This live and interactive session will cover the following:

  • Understanding the drivers for misusing an LPA
  • What gifts are permitted under the Act and common law?
  • Why professional involvement acts as a safeguard to abuse
  • Why include preferences and instructions?
  • Clauses to include which add protection for your client

Recording of live sessions: Soon after the Learn Live session has taken place you will be able to go back and access the recording - should you wish to revisit the material discussed.
