Introduction

The Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 has now been in force for over two years, establishing a significant difference between English and Welsh residential housing law. Tenancies are now consigned to the history books, replaced by occupation contracts.

This webinar considers the main overarching changes made by the legislation and how it is being interpreted in the courts throughout Wales. This includes a focus on how to ensure a s.173 ‘no-fault’ notice is effective and what the parties can do when it isn’t, as well as raising and responding to a s.91 ‘fitness for human habitation’ defence/counterclaim.

What You Will Learn

This webinar will cover the following:

  • The main changes implemented by the RHWA 2016
  • The fundamental terms that need to be included within occupation contracts
  • What a private landlord must have in place when entering into an occupation contract
  • The consequences of a failed possession claim
  • The implications of non-compliance with the ‘Fitness for Human Habitation’ requirements
  • The requirements of a s.173 notice and defences which may be raised by the contract holder

This pre-recorded webinar will be available to view from Thursday 26th June 2025
